Yes I've just seen this and it's very insightful what he says about the people running the club. Reading between the lines he clearly doesn't feel they are up to the job and are doing things in the clubs best interest. He said 'it could have been so different' and when asked if he's worried about Saints there was a long pause. It was clear from his words that he still loves the club and is worried about what's going on.

SRL vcame out and said what all us 'neggies' ie worried fans think…it need not have happened! WTF..

At last an insight, the woner as with Lowe before thought she knew better, now Koeman and co may produce (here is hoping) the goods BUT this sorry unprecedented episode need not have happened..

..now that is from our guy who is a Southampton supporter, not a professional seeking justification….

Football needs to be run by proffesional people, Premier football UBER proffesional people, I am sorry but even if it comes right it was an unneccessary risk, NC made a huge profit on the Leibherrs investment he should have been trusted to finish the job…

Koeman many well do however what has happened to us has never and hopefully will never happen to any club with such little debt (in real terms) again.

Warren - the record is stuck. Give it up. Ricky was our hero - now he ain't.
There's a new crew in town and if you can't find it in your heart to show some sort of support to them why not just go and watch burnt muff or something 'cos your whining is becoming bloody tedious.

Not going to be happy until we fall flat on our face are you? I can almost hear you rehearsing the "Didn't I tell you" routine. Go and tell the Saints board you know best and they are all amateurs and you're the only one who knows anything and can save them money and face.

Well this is where we get to see if the clubs bold transfer strategy has paid off. I can't help feeling that if we keep it respectable (within 2 goals) then this will be a decent platform from which to build. That said Swansea proved that shocks can still happen.

My assessment of the first half- Liverpool are less than last year; Saints are going to do well this year. Forster is strong at the back and no craziness ala Boroc. Ward Prowse, Davis, Tadic, playing well. We have a good shape and effort. All we need is more attempts on goal. Well satisfied. Looking to see what adjustments we make. Would like to see Morgan have more belief in the team now that he has played one half.

Negatives:
The players are not yet on the same wavelength.
The midfield aren't winning enough tackles.
We're struggling to keep Stirling at bay.
Apart from a couple of moments, we don't look dangerous enough in and around the box.
We're one down. (Anyone think Tadic was being fouled before the ball broke to Henderson?)

Positives:
The players are beginning to get an understanding (Tadic & Bertrand looking good together).
Ron will sort the midfield out at half time. Maybe Jack will come on.
Ron will get Clyne to play tighter than he's been in the first half.
The front line will click and Pelle will score.
We're ONLY one down.

I hate being behind but we're far from out of this.

COYS!

We have been saying very similar things this summer and now someone who was actually involved has confirmed out thoughts.
Lets hope we come away from today's game with our pride intact.
Massive odds against us from the bookies.

But ..... you never know.. it's a funny old game.

been impressed so far. liverhampton seem to be sitting back and hoping to hit us with long balls and apart from the odd mistake they haven't had that much success. would like to see long come on to hassle their back 4 but worry that if we took one of the midfield out it might give them more room to play through us.
really impressed with Big Vic, tadic and Bertrand are linking well, JWP is having a great game and happy to see a keeper who can kick with both feet, and clear his lines well.
not out of this and could still come away with a point or 3.

stras, I think spider is well in the game and playing well. he may not be happy but I think he can leave that behind when hes on the pitch.

We could all find a few things to niggle about, but was that a defeat by a team staring relegation in the face? I don't think so Robbie Savage!

Bad luck Saints. We'll play worse and win, and we're moving in the right direction.

Average 1st have good 2nd, better finishing could have got us 3 points. Tadic great on the ball but a little off the pace at times, as he gets up to speed with the prem he'll be a real asset. Victor was superb and motm for us but Morgan looked a little rusty, not suprising after his pre season. 2 poor goals to concede which RK will not be happy with. Letting sterling win the 2nd header was sloppy. Still more positives than negatives from the game. Better finishing and we win that game. Why did we let SRL leave?

Good shout, I was well impressed end of first half and all of second half, Pelle linked up a lot of play with lay offs, all round good performance, we were robbed.

Did you think that Spyder could of done better with his tackle for first goal (bit harsh maybe) and just stood and watched the header in the box for their second when he was the nearest player?

spider could have gone right through Henderson on the first goal but I think he was trying to nick the ball away, so yes might have done better there. second goal was a disaster all round, Big Vic had a poor headed then prince wannabe (purple rain style hair) should never have got that header and sturridge the wonder horse shouldn't have been played onside, I don't think he even caught it anywhere near how he meant to and got very lucky!
spider might not have been at his best but that might just be down to lack of training and friendlies, I really think he has a great character and can leave his problems behind when he gets on the pitch.

For a team tipped for relegation by many (including the numpty phil Neville) and a team reeling from the heart of the team being ripped out, Oh and a team full of players that won't adapt quickly to the prem, not to mention a team that will need too long to gel........ The TEAM did well, signs were good, yes we lost and yes there are some obvious areas that need work, but that is the same for every team, every season in the 1st couple of games. Vic, JWP, Clyne and Fonte stood out for me and it's players like this that will become the new spine. Morgan will need time I feel and potentially should have gone off after 60 mins, Tadic looked good, some iffy moments but a great flick for the goal and over time he will smash the prem (remember Adams 1st season in the prem?), Pelle was absent at times but I reckon he will be a weapon against lower PL sides in games we will HAVE to win. Forster, Bertrand both solid and isgrove could just well be a surprise little package. Shame we didn't win, but we were away to a top 6 side after a turbulent summer..... I am happy and confident of good season. Best player today..... Our Fans. Love the saints. COYR.

It was a good game of football and though we lost we can hold our heads high we played really well. Think though taking Tadic off was a game changer and not in our favour but that is just me. When he came off Liverpool started to push more and brought RL on. Whilst he was on he was creating prolems all the time. For a team that has only been together a few weeks I thought we did really well
And didn't Lovren look stressed at times. lol.
I believe we are only going to get better and in fairness Liverpool's goals were fast excellently carried out moves with Sterling involved in both.
At the start of the day I was wondering what to expect overall I was impressed despite the final score.

That is Pelle's first game against that standard of opposition - judge him in January.

What did you see Davis do wrong that I missed?

Yoshida will not be first choice once our Romanian youngster is fit but will still have a part to playe throughout this long system - Will be happy to see any or all of the 3 you mention get a start but c'mon be fair.

Nothing happened that I saw which we need to be worried or ashamed of.
There's no such thing as fair in football but we could've easily got the draw and maybe even nicked that game. There is nothing that the big boys have that we need to be too concerned about on that showing, we will play worse than that and win this season for sure. Tadic is a bit lively eh!? A big thank you to Spyder for being the professional he is - he more than played his part. Nat Clyne is my hero.
Well played Skiverpool for long stretches you were outplayed but you took your chances perfectly. You looked more effective up front once Lambert came on. You too need another centre back.

Just reported on Sky we've put a 10m bid in for Townsend. Mixed thoughts on this one. I like him as a player but is he robust enough for a full season of the intensity of the PL?

Yoshida, Wanyama, Ward-pwowse, Schniederlin and Clyne all excellent today.
Fonte also did well. I think Davis will be a bit disappointed, but I guess we've started expecting so much from him. Also, Isgrove did okay.
Wouldn't argue too much about your assessment Strass.

We were good value today and I am really happy that Morgan applied himself in the way he did - what a pro. Isgrove is a bit lively ain't he?
There were whole swathes of that game where we looked the favourites to finish top six and not them. Would have been a perfect end to the day if we'd taken a point.

anyone got any intell on why ramirez not involved today? he can definitely influence from the bench and looked classy when he came on against leverkusen. if he's not injured, am worried he's either not fancied by RonKo (serious misjudgement as we're short of playmakers/players who can drift past opponents) or is on his way this window... nothing against isgrove, but feel ramirez would have had more impact coming on today

We have been saying very similar things this summer and now someone who was actually involved has confirmed out thoughts.
Lets hope we come away from today's game with our pride intact.
Massive odds against us from the bookies.

But ..... you never know.. it's a funny old game.
Knows what he's talking about? come on, I love SRL as much as anyone, but thats like saying a member of staff knows what's going on in the mind of the MD. And a member of staff who left before most decisions were made. It's easy to put a negative slant on any change, and to be honest if he has said these things, that's more than a little disappointing.
Quite right mate. The only thing Ricky know about the whole situation that we don't is who was doing the backstabbing in the locker room and maybe what it was Jose said that made Arsevaldo think he was better at fighting than he will ever be at football.
If he was in Pinchatinnies little group of disciples he would've heard the Gospel according to little forked tongue latin gent with an axe to grind but like Manuel I would put money on Ricky "knows nothing"

SRL was reading from a script, I expect Brenda will be in for another saints player next week, judging by today he might want another 6 or 7.

Has been some strange agenda against saints for months, never in 50 years of following football have I witnessed anything like it, NC me thinks.

Can buy this a club need footballing people like their has been some massive change, maybe I am missing something please tell me but as I see it.

We now have a much more experienced manager, with access to a network of talent (not Italian nut cases) with a wealth of playing skills to pass on.

The previous chairman had no footballing/sporting knowledge he was a banker, we now have a chairman that is very highly respected in his sporting field.

What a performance today by the bones left from exodus and the foreign imports that could never gel, oh and are excellent away supporters who were immense.

On our way home and feeling only a little disappointed by the match. The fans were in great voice and spirit and the players hardly let us down. You have to hand it to Koeman for getting this performance out of a team that has barely trained together let alone played side-by-side. Frankly there is not much to say that is negative - though the usual suspects on here have already proved that they will never be happy. After a dodgy 25 minutes and conceding a sloppy goal that Clyne should have done better to defend against we settled really well. By the end of the first half we were very much on the up and pressing. Koeman has already proved he is a far better tactician than his predecessor and that he has a plan B and, I suspect, a plan C and D too! Overall we looked pretty sound. Yoshida gave us all the colleywobbles a few times (as usual) and Clyne needs to get quicker at reading things but by and large we gave last season's runners up more than a tough game today. If it hadn't been for Mignolet and three great saves (two from Schneiderlin), Davis not blasting instead of passing his shot and JWP not going for a shot instead of leaving it for Clyne the score-line could have been quite different. Bertrand's performance suggests we won't miss Shaw and Tadic was very good though needs to step up the pace a bit and get used to the players around him to read his last pass better. Too early to say what Pelle will do as he spent most of the match up front on his own. Long looked handy when he came on and both Ward-Prowse and Wanyama missed his runs off the ball. And Isgrove looks like he'll be a handfull in future too. Schneiderlin, despite his two great efforts on goal, didn't look quite on it today and I hope that's just a sign of lack of fitness and training this summer.

Overall we were unlucky to lose today and Liverpool got a fright. On this evidence they won't get anywhere near winning the title this season. Sadly I have to say Lovren played well but we showed that they will need more than him to stem the goals this season.

I dare say the negative commentators on here and the nay-sayers will have their usual moan and rant but frankly I think we can all look forward to an exciting season on the balance of this performance. The team will only get better the more they play together and there's more coming in. The bench certainly looked stronger today and it made a welcome change from the only option being Guly sitting on it! My main concern is the goalkeeping position. No idea why Boruc was missing - maybe TV watchers can explain? But if he goes we're back to the same position as last season with only one first choice keeper.

Don't think the chance was really a chance as Long had to foul to connect with he ball. At least he was there - Pelle very disappointing was never involved

Great post, being on holiday I watched the whole match on telly, I agree with all you are saying, was so pleased it went well today I think it sets us up for an interesting season.

We still need another centre back, not sure who will drop in at right back if Clyne is injured so may want to look at that and another option up front would be good.

But a very impressive display in the main.

Watched the game here, live. Must say, after the first 15 mins, we improved and were the better team for long periods. Deserved at least a point. Clearly, we will improve as we get up to speed, judge them properly after 10 games. This team looks better than what we had, and I like the way we played.

Tadic, looked class, Bert look solid at left back, Luke who?
It's also clear Ron has more tactical awareness than Poch, Tadic was constantly moving from right to left and causing problems, Adam who? Better replacements than those that walked out.

Good to see Morgan back, although not match fit for the full 90.

Onwards, commentators here, (Le Saux) praising the Saints performance.

Great post! With J-Rod today we would have won, no doubt. I was impressed with the way the team reacted after RoKos team talk too - much more cutting much higher up the pitch and JWP was a revelation in the second half. Tadic will be better than Lallana too and Long will run some defences ragged when he get a chance. Nobody in that team too big for their boots either (well maybe Morgan but hey-ho)

Centre half to come in and a few tweaks will see us consolidating our position this season and that's what we want after all the upheaval.
Well done he lads and RK nothing to be disappointed about only the result.

A highly impressive performance by Saints today. I give it 8 out 10 (Liverpool only 6 out of 10). We could easily have scored 3 goals and were so much stronger than Liverpool after the first 30 minutes. There were some very strong individual performances. For me, JWP deserved the man of the match award but that almost always goes to a player on the team that won - why? It happens in most team sports and if it is supposed to be a neutral verdict (hmmm) then the result is not relevant. That aside, Vic had a superb game, one of his best for us so far and he looked very sharp. Clyne was careless at times in defence, especially early on and leading up to their 1st goal but he improved later on. Going forward down the right he looked outstanding at times and what a goal! Fraser looked very comfortable in goal and, I think, only made one error with a poor clearance. Yoshida did look out of his depth at times and had a very inconsistent game making several dangerously short passes. Tadic started off very brightly and had some great link play with Bertrand (who had a good, consistent game). For his first EPL appearance and against a big team, he looked at home. He covered a lot of ground but faded slightly later on which is probably why RonKo substituted him. He'll get stronger quickly and get used to the pace of the EPL and should last the full 90 minutes with a few more games under his belt. Yes, Pelle only showed brief signs of what he is capable of but we must be patient with him. He needs plenty of game time and I believe he'll improve with each appearance. I would like Long and Pelle both to start against WBA (as well as Tadic) as I feel that Shane will provide much more service to Graziano, which he can feed off. When Long came on quite late, Pelle had faded very slightly (he had done quite a few long runs and back covering without being very productive (any doubters, please be patient). Davies and Morg were both inconsistent. A blend of a few errors and some strong forward runs. If only Morg could have bagged a brace from those 2 strong shots of his. Who have I left out. Oh, our new captain had a good, solid game. Whilst I congratulate the whole team for playing some attractive football and looking like winners, my biggest appreciation goes to RonKo. After all the summer changes, uncertainties and tantrums, he has got the best out of his players. They are starting to gel and that process will continue in the next few games. I see more goals coming than last season. With Taider surely set to get a game or come off the bench soon, Florin Gardos ready in a couple of weeks and JayRod in a couple of months, we have a very strong and promising squad. I was optimistic before (saying another top 8 or even 7 finish) but I feel that a top 6 or even 5 finish is highly achievable. We are so much better than the bottom half of the league. Now to win most of the easier run of games to come.

Let's see how this lot gel in the next few weeks, it was impressive stuff all things considered today. The key games will be against the so called lesser teams who last season where we had 80% and couldn't score. Poch and his plan A, If we can convert those draws / loss into wins, then we could really spring a surprise

I'll say this now, Ron will win a manager of the month during this season!
[quote][p][bold]nomorerumours[/bold] wrote: A highly impressive performance by Saints today. We certainly did not deserve to lose today, and if we had taken our chances we would have had a comfortable win.
I don't think we should have taken off Tadic as we was beginning to cause them problems.
Wanyama was MOM for me and was class. Really showed Gerard how to play the holding role.
3 points next week at home will settle the team to move on. On the back of this performance no team will enjoy playing us as we will be tough to beat. Well done to the team for their efforts and well done to our supporters as they are the only supporters you could hear on the TV .

Good first goal from Liverhampton although definately a foul on Tadic..
Saints goal was even better and should have gone 2-1 up,,,,Davis miss.
Liverhampton's winner down to poor defending.
Loads of positives but a few neg's that will need sorting.
Overall not a bad display from Saints who made Liverhampton look a million miles away from a decent Champion's League side.
Still think another CB is required for cover and goal scoring winger or striker.
Deserved a point at least and the media should say the same...but won't.

Hangover,

That was a great performance. All we need to do is keep that level & do a bit of fine tuning. I feel that once we have a back 4 with 6 games behind them the clean sheets will come too.
JWP looks like 2 months away from being a true legend playing off the striker.
No points but after the summer that felt like a victory.
The future is bright and it's red and white
Off to work

That's what I'd have written if I was still single (or had I been allowed down the pub for the day) :-)

Overall performance was solid, very few mistakes made and we look promising going forward. There's a reason why us happy clappers keep repeating the phrase "keep the faith" - because the players and manager also believe. Get behind them.

In other news, Hearts won the Edinburgh derby again, so yesterday was a good day methinks.

Taken overall, Saints did play a good game, and I think Schniederlin did a good job and I believe that, given a few more games and Saints will turn out to be as good as last season and/or better this season. Koeman is going to prove to be a manager who does,nt bow under pressure and turn out to be a God-send to the saints. I cannot wait for Liverpool to come and play at St Marys I betcha Liverpool will not find it so easy on our ground in front of a capacity filled St Marys. Well Done Saints!! We should have won, but I would have settled for a draw.

Many Premier teams will go to Anfield this season on not put on a display like Saints did. We were desperately unlucky not to come away with a point.

I thought 'Victor Mugubi Wanyama' was Saints MOTM, Tadic looks like he has the ability to cause defences problems, and there were generally solid performances throughout the team.

As quoted elsewhere that 'boring wooden numpty, with a charisma bypass operation' Phil Neville has predicted Saints for the drop. Not on this performance Sunshine.
