BROCKENHURST have bolstered their table-topping squad by signing Danny Cox from newly-promoted Southern League outfit Sholing.

Cox was in his second spell with the Boatmen, having returned there from Winchester City in 2012.

The 23-year-old was classified as a utility player at Portsmouth Road but, according to Brock manager Pat McManus, he wants to be recognised as a striker again – the position he thrived on when coming through the youth/reserve ranks at AFC Totton.

With top scorer Daryll Phillips unavailable, Cox is due to make his Badgers debut at fourth-placed Moneyfields tomorrow (Saturday) in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

McManus explained: “Sholing wanted Danny. However, he was adamant he wanted to leave to get regular football in his favoured position, which is up top.

“He was frustrated at being played out of position.”

Cox made 38 Wessex appearances for FA Vase/Sydenhams Premier double winners Sholing last season, including 31 starts, scoring six goals.

With no other top-five teams in league action tomorrow, a positive result at Dover Road would extend Brock’s lead.

But McManus said: “We’re disregarding what other teams are doing and just concentrating on ourselves.

“There’s lots of stuff we need to work on – and we will - but the most pleasing thing for me and (assistant) Tony Patten is that we are where we are and there’s still room for improvement.

“We’re all realists and we don’t expect to be there (at the top) the whole season, but we expect to spoil a few parties.

“The trouble is, we’re also capable of spoiling our own party, but we will get better,” he pledged.

Moneyfields have also strengthened by re-signing midfielder Stuart Green on dual registration from Conference South neighbours Gosport Borough, initially for a month.

The former Romsey Town man was a key cog in the Moneys machine last term, banging in 17 goals in 32 Wessex games. He scored on Monday as Moneys held then league leaders Blackfield & Langley 1-1 at Dover Road.
