With Jack and Vic both on the bench, it does leave us light in midfield, but then again, since when have Sam's teams ever used the midfield areas of the park. It could be a fatal mistake OR an inspired decision; we'll see.

Morgan to Arsenal? Makes more sense than him going to Spuds. As he's playing today, it's either because Caughtoffside are talking rubbish or because he wants to say a proper farewell. His body language will be interesting, especially if he's subbed in the 89th minute.

Like most, I'm a fan of Steve Davies, but there are times I wish he'd just roll the ball to the next player - play the simple ball - too often he seems to stop, slow the play down and look for the difficult pass to a marked player. BUT, in his defence, he covers a lot of ground at both ends and has earned his right to be in the starting eleven.

Morgan to Arsenal? Makes more sense than him going to Spuds. As he's playing today, it's either because Caughtoffside are talking rubbish or because he wants to say a proper farewell. His body language will be interesting, especially if he's subbed in the 89th minute.

My fault! Went for a pee and they scored. BBC blames Forster. Is that fair?
He didn't have a chance with the deflection - Possibly a Yoshida error but would need to see it from more angles

Well spider got robbed of the ball, yoshi did what any defender would do and stuck his leg out, will need to look again but I thought the ball went over forsters hand, not blaming him though as it was a big deflection.

Pelle is doing OK dropping back to link the play up, when he does he brings a CB or 2 up with him so we need long, tadic or another midfielder to make the run in behind him into the space, thats where we miss J-Rod.

OK so here is the present answer to the question we are all dancing around in various guises as to where we are at moment. We look fairly solid as a unit but there are nowhere near enough goals in this team. The build up play is too slow and most of the chances seem to be falling to players with no real end product like Steven Davis.

The forwards are only as good as the supply they receive and they aint getting much. Sadly, it’s as exciting as the West Brom Game.
As Doctor Brian Cox once said in a former career ..... Things can only get Better.

    Cue Morgan :)

No arguments there Strassie about his work rate, but I am still haunted by his miss at Liverpool and again today, I wish it would fall on the foot of someone with more of a killer instinct.

Overall a great team performance, especially the 2nd half. The team passed the ball around and West Ham were chasing shadows. The fitness of our squad looks right at the top. Now the team is coming together and Koeman is getting them playing the football he wants.

Before the negatives try to say "it is only West Ham"... Think back how we got on last year against them!!

Well said. Excellent 2nd half, took it to them and played them off the park.

seriously, if he is having a great game, i'd hate to see him have a stinker.

I am entitled to my opinion but please dont pay any attention to me because I actually dont know anything about football!, management or how to be positive about anything.......

You have got to laugh,,,,,,,,as good as any of the games under the traitor...

Defensively solid, dominant in midfield and Pelle led the line very well creating space and holding the ball up, what was even better was the options off the bench, could do with another defender and another forward but its not really essential to our prosperity or survival so no need to rush into any deal thats not right for the club.

He had a good 1st half drawing defenders out and creating space, and a great 2nd half. He will assist others too and I still predict that he'll be a 20+ per season goal scorer for us for some years. what a cracking second half, it looked too easy. the passing and pressing were superb. pelle deserves a special mention after some of the idiotic comments aimed at him this week. don't know if he scored the first, but scored a great goal from a free kick cross (unfortunately the lino had a mare though) and got the third. most importantly he lead the line well today and dropped back to link up the play well.
yes a special mention for pelle but the whole team played well, how important was that save by forster in the first half? clyne was exceptional on the right, tadic did well and despite the continued speculation linking spider with a move (how many times do the club have to say hes going nowhere?) he gave a man of the match performance today.
never ceases to amaze me how some on here are constantly negative, even during a game, and slate players all the time, then when we win the try to tell us that the club and player they were slating at half time had a great game today.

never ceases to amaze me how some on here are constantly negative, even during a game, and slate players all the time, then when we win the try to tell us that the club and player they were slating at half time had a great game today.
oh its great to be a saints fan, but its even better to be a happy clapper saints fan who has supported the club throughout the summer!

Horse can you believe how great i am with my predictions.

I predicted in the summer that our best players would leave, and they DID. I also said months before that that Poch would probably leave beacause NC had left, again i was of course correct! Now THOSE predictions were negative, BUT correct. I complimented the club on SOME excellent signings, again i was right. I predicted that Ron would do a great job and he is in the process of proving me right, as per usual. And this week i told fans to lay off the players and Ron because it would take time for things to gel, and we go away and win at West Ham.

I wouldn't say i'm feeling smug, but it's nice to be proved right time after time after time after time!!! :-)

I'm sorry, but all those who were quick to right of Pelle after just a couple of games are looking a little foolish.

He was a real handful today and he put continued pressure on the West Ham defence.

100% agree! Now to replicate our away form at St Marys. With the run of fixtures against bottom half teams to continue (including Spuds who's fortunes will take a turn for the worse), we should win most of these and may even be in the top 3 before we play another big club. Then with the gelling and huge confidence from all those wins, we shall be well placed to give Man City & Co a good run for their money. Yes, we did get into a similar position last Autumn but we have a deeper squad (hopefully a couple more by Monday evening) this season and cover in most positions - so stand a far greater chance of maintaining our position. I won't mention Europe yet - oh,I just have!

Just because they annoy me at times or because I disagree with them doesn't put them in the OTHER category - the category I'd like to think we all dislike on here, and that's the WUMs and skates category. Player ratings in my opinion:

Forster 8 - a great save and unlucky to let the deflection in

Bertrand 7 - a solid performance and linked well with Tadic at times

Clyne 8 - an excellent game in defence and going forward

Fonte 7 - another good, solid persormance

Yoshida 7 - good game, perhaps unlucky to deflect the ball for their goal

Sneiderlin 9 - great 2nd goal, solid at the back..joint MOM

Ward-Prowse 7 - not as good as at L'pool..great free kick

Davies 6 - good running as usual but a little off his game today

Tadic 8 - another impressive performance and great link play

Long 6 - a little inconsistent but some good periods

Pelle 9 - great link play, drawing defenders out - 2 great goals (1 disallowed) ...joint MOM

Cork 7 - impressed late on as a sub

Ramirez 6 - little time to show his skills but looked at home in the team

Overall performance - 8 (1st half 6 and 2nd half 9). Unfortunate to concede just before the interval when we went in looking the far better team; then playerd them off the park in the 2nd half.

Koeman 10 - doing a great job to get the best out of each player and to get the team to gel so quickly. Just a question of how many manager of the month awards he wins this season. (surely not Poch for August - they need to lose tomorrow!!!).

Are you watching the 1970 world cup lol
I have just about had it with you - so you've determined to ruin this afternoon.
seriously, if he is having a great game, i'd hate to see him have a stinker.
From watching Pelle this year, including this game, he is clueless as a striker. He has no awareness in and around the box. At this stage in his career you either have that or you don't. So Morgan does it for us, so put him up front.
Clueless, Displaced? He's led the line superbly today, has probably had the ball in the net 3 times and definitely has his first now, so please, please, please just get off his back!
costa gaz, Clever Dick, Displaced fan, warren, RedAndy, - can you hear me? You guys took one HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

    LLLLLLL of a beating.

How does it feel to be disappointed and embarrassed that your team won? Never had that feeling myself. Get in Saints, get in Pelle.
WTF is wrong with you? why wouldn't all Saints fans be happy with today.
Stop starting trouble for the sake of it.
Sorry, you've been slagging off the board with your fellow board haters all yesterday and all of this afternoon - you can't just blend in and think you'll get lost in the crowd.

At 3pm you told me that the Les Reed was the worst thing in football and that all his buys were absolute rubbish. Two hours later and you're saying how good they are? I'd be embarrassed, that's all I'm saying.
Shut up …we are all happy with this point scoring is only for people who do not get enough in the sack.
We are all happy. Great result. People are not point scoring but saying you and others were wrong. Support the team and club and try to give some balance to your comments. You were slating everything - now you celebrating it's embarrassing !!!!
P155 off I slated the perceived cöck ups of the board NOT the players..and oh twatish one I admitted i would be happy to be wrong..one thing is for sure you would never be so brave face to face so do one.

So, it ended 6-3. I can remember another prem game ending 6-3. Now when was that?

That's when we beat Manu - was it the year just before or just after we won the FA Cup in 1976? My memory is not so good these days. Did you go to that match? First Saints game I saw was at The Dell in September 1966 (aged 13) - we beat Wolves 9-3 (still our best ever result) and ended up 2nd behind Man City for our first ever promotion to Div 1. I thought that was normal then!!! My younger brother supported Wolves (he was besotted by Derek Dougan) and my father (an Arsenal supporter) took us to see S'oton v Wolves games a several times (home and away). We lived in London then. The return match at Molineux was in March a dull (by comparison) 2-2 draw!!!! I had started supporting Saints several years earlier when England beat N Ireland 11-0 in a home international. (saw it on black & white telly) Greaves got 4 goals and Terry Paine got 3. As my older brother supported Spuds I had to support Saints!!! Apart from Terry Paine my favourite was Ron Davies. Saw him in another home international England v Wales with the perfect result for me. We beat Wales 3-2 after Davies put them 2-0 up with 2 great headers from corners. He was one of the best ever headers in world football. His 39 Div 1 league goals (about 43 including cups) in 1967 (or around then) would have put Suarez to shame last season!!!

What a shame we have a break next week
Funny old world, isn't it? I haven't been trawling through old threads, I just hadn't got around to reading one of the threads until after the game had ended, but I notice that at 1pm today, you wrote:

"Sorry but am i the only one who thinks that ronald is just a spokesman for the board ? he is a board spokesman and i have no faith in him
hate the way the club is going , hate the squad, hate the transfers hate the tactics and now i am for sure going to get hate messages but hey ho thats football maybe when jay rod is back we will get some of the old feeling back but if he performs then the vultures will be calling and knowing mr reed he will sell cos money matters and football comes second"

This is why some on here are having a go at those who seem to thrive on negativity and then - as someone put it in reference to Gaz - try to blend in when things go well. By all means express your opinion but be prepared to live and die by them, and face up to criticism when the evidence suggests you're wrong.
    nice catch stras!
    Ta!

Regarding those other 'negs' listed and attacked by JD, to be fair, they are all genuine fans who make solid contributions on here. I don't always agree with them, but that's not a problem for me.

Warrens (like Seedhouse) has made it clear he doesn't like what the board has been up to. In the main, I disagree with him, but we'll still be able to sit down for a beer when we're next at the same match.

Clever Dick made an extraordinary attack on the board this week, but I think that's a bit of a one-off. He's usually quite a giggle.

I highlighted Displaced, but I think he's also one of the good guys on here who I've certainly never had any real disagreements with.

Redandy seems to be a bit like Gaz. I'll be honest, (and a bit opinionated) both strike me as being a bit arrogant and both annoy me at times but they both - on the whole - make a contribution to the debate. Just because they annoy me at times or because I disagree with them doesn't put them in the OTHER category - the category I'd like to think we all dislike on here, and that's the WUMs and skates category. Sheds, Tabourba, Kent and those posing as fans of Manure, Spuds and the Scousers, as well as (most of) the skates just deserve nothing more than to be shhhhhhhhed.
Thank you for the kind words Stras!!!

We'll finish either 12th, 13th or 14th this season, which considering what happened this summer, will be a good showing.

And apologies Red Andy, I was a bit out of order with the comment generally and to include your name on there, plus probably a couple of others - we are all Saints fans and entitled to our opinions and, to be honest, I've often be arguing with clappers and neggies in equal measure this summer, trying to take a balanced view.

Just been getting wound up by gaz's constant negativity over the past few days (for instance calling Reed an embarrassment to football and only giving him credit for being a 'maintenance and kit man' over the past four years when he actually played a major role in our rise from the second division). He's the one who wound me up when he started celebrating and naming Reed signings as our best players.

Apologies for any offense caused and enjoy the win. COYR.

    Great result today!!!!

I would probably rate Schneiderlin an 8, only because he was siting in front of the back 4 and gave away the ball which led to the first goal.

Good to see Pelle have a good match and score after the stick h got at the WBA game!

Over all amazing performance second half. As good as anything I saw last season!!!! (Especially at West Spam)

After three performances, things are looking bright!

Is it a case of they don't like what the board has been up to or is that like the remainder of us they don't have a clue what the board has or has not been up to - question that's all, which is it? Another question if you don't mind me asking. What part of truth, accuracy, fairness etc stands in the way of a good character assassination please enlighten me of your opinion on that? - BTW Gaz not one of my opinions, merely what I have seen posted here as others opinions which has prompted me to ask questions to assist me in forming my own opinion.
Practice what you preach GAZ or don't bother trying to preach it to me.
Seems there are others on here seem to feel quite strongly also but that individual seems to be too pleasant to give you his real opinion. Maybe you should read between the lines a little to guage his opinion GAZ, Would it hurt to take that opinion on board, to investigate yourself, ask yourself a few questions or are you content it's you always in the right and everyone else is wrong? Thanks for reminding us of Gaz's "Opinions" especially of them being constant - you're right, they can be tiresome.

Went to the game today and a fairly commanding display from us resulting in a 3-1 win - surrounded by Wetspam fans who were crying into their programmes. Logic dictates that for this high there may well be a low or two along the way but right now I hope all is well even with the most determined neggie.
This is already a fantastic season can't wait for next season too.

Pelle is having a great game - hat rick please

    Next time

That's exactly the point though mate it's all perceived **** ups, it's not perceived that way by me 'cos I just don't know and neither do you or it wouldn't be perceived it would be put as fact. Maybe this is the nub of the matter, because everything has to be done behind closed doors and kept quiet we (me included) don't really trust 'em. Some clearly distrust 'em more than others.
Maybe it's way too early to start jumping up and down with joy just yet 'cos the end of the season is a long way off but I was at the game today and if we can dish the second half up more often I reckon we'll be okay.
The board we have is the one we're stuck with no matter what we might feel about them just like come Monday the players are the ones we're stuck with until the Jan sales and there's booger all I can do to alter either of 'em. We can choose to go with 'em or fight against em - everyone will make their own minds up. Don't see the point of ranting against them 'cos it achieves sod all. Just drinking in the win today.
BTW went up in a 12 seater of Wetspams and of course sat with them 'cos they got me the ticket. As you can imagine I took some blx on the way up but mostly they talked about how surprised they were that we'd been able to put a team together as good as that in the time we've had. Made me feel good.
Best season ever, best team ever, best pies ever, best board ever, best programme sellers ever - Owzat for appy clappy and until our next beating that's the way I'll stay.
