Benali continues to beat the pain

First published in Sport

Franny Benali continued to run through the pain barrier as he reached the halfway point of his 1,000-mile run.

The Saints legend ran another 42 miles via Leicester City’s Walkers Stadium alongside the club’s ex-Saints midfielder Dean Hammond.

He will tick off two more clubs when he drops in at Aston Villa and West Brom tomorrow morning.

But his right knee is continuing to give him pain as he prepares for the second half of his gruelling journey, in aid of Cancer Research UK.

“I was struggling a bit for the first five or six miles and battled through the last eight," said Benali, who is staying between Nuneaton and Tamworth tonight. "I had a few pit stops and my physio was excellent with the roadside treatment she gave me.

“I had to dig deep and psychologically it’s good to have reached ten of the 20 clubs and be about halfway through the mileage.

“It was also great to be joined by Dean, he ran for quite a few miles with me.”

I'm sorry, I used to sit in the old main stand at The Dell.
Benali was the poorest left back we ever had.
I just don't get it.
And I can remember many, many others who were equally committed to the cause.
Good luck to him in whatever career he follows but Legend, really?
Words fail me

You are a sad individual. I met Franny today in Leicester and donated a three figure sum to the cause. people like you should be ashamed of yourselves and I'm sure others will agree

or are you a pathetic, jealous Pom*ey fan with nothing better to do than post this.

I'm not a Pompey fan I just never got why F was so revered, really.
Good luck to him, as I said, with whatever he chooses to do but really he never did anything to further the Saints cause. I just didn't get it.
Instead if insulting, why don't you explain why you think he is a "legend"?

loyalty. A rare thing even when he was playing. BTW, have you donated yet?

Loyalty yes, by put he never got us out of any trouble, ever.
And I remember him giving away several crucial penalties, so why "legend".
Last man standing?
Le Tiss was a Legend, not Benali, he was a very lucky journeyman.
And I haven't donated as I think Benali is doing the whole thing a s some kind of self publicity.

He is running 1000 miles for charity. Can you find it in your cold heart to support a worthy cause? i doubt it.

Is white, what a complete and utter prat. Maybe he's doing it because someone in his family suffers with the cause. I've donated, not a lot but a donation of £10 is better than a whine like you ya tool.

And what have you ever done for charity, stuff all. Franny was a great left back for saints, you obviously went to the odd game at saints. Armchair supporter
