A busy week of international duty for a host of Saints players begins tonight.

While Fraser Forster is in the England squad for the friendly against Norway, there are plenty of others preparing for action too.

This evening should see striker Shane Long feature for Republic of Ireland in their home friendly against Oman.

The match represents a final warm-up for Sunday’s opening Euro 2016 qualifier, away to Georgia.

Saints keeper Cody Cropper, 21, could make his senior debut for the United States tonight, having been called up for the friendly away to Czech Republic, while young winger Josh Sims is with the England Under-18 team for today’s friendly at home to Netherlands.

New signings Toby Alderweireld and Sadio Mane both have games coming up, with Alderweireld in the Belgium squad for tomorrow’s home friendly against Australia and Mane selected to represent Senegal in a pair of African Cup of Nations qualifiers, at home to Egypt on Friday and then away to Botswana next Wednesday.

Morgan Schneiderlin is in the France squad for a pair of friendly games – at home to Spain tomorrow and then away to Serbia on Sunday.

The midfielder’s Saints teammate, Dusan Tadic, could come up against him in the latter of those matches.

Maya Yoshida will be in action for Japan this Friday, at home to Uruguay, before his country plays host to Venezuela next Tuesday in a pair of non-competitive fixtures.

Northern Ireland skipper Steven Davis begins his Euro 2016 qualification campaign on Sunday, with a trip to Hungary, while Artur Boruc is in the Poland squad as their bid to reach the next major championship starts with a visit to Gibraltar on the same day.

James Ward-Prowse is currently preparing for a pair of Euro 2015 qualifiers with the England Under-21 squad, starting with Friday’s trip to Lithuania, which is followed by Tuesday’s visit to Moldova.

Winger Lloyd Isgrove is also on under-21 duty, with Wales, as they travel to Finland on Friday, and then Lithuania on Tuesday, for qualifying games.

Harrison Reed and Matt Targett are with the England Under-20s for Friday’s home friendly against Romania.

When we have climbed the table and had an extremely successful season, even more of our players will be called up for international duty. The biggest omission right now is Nathaniel Clyne but it will not be much longer for him if he stays fit. I'm confident that Fraser Forster will become England's number 1 keeper in due course. I am expecting great things from Graziano Pelle, especially with the service he'll be getting from Tadic and Mane in particular. If this could get him into the Italian team, that would be best of all. Great times ahead for our wonderful club.

Cannot help but be turned off by internationals following what happened in the summer, LFC taking three players and Gerrards known dislike of Les Reed may be circumstantial yet…

As for England's dire football enough said.

I for one don't want to see agent roy at sms again!
we cheered and sung our hearts out for our English players last season and they couldn't wait to turn their backs on us, helped by roy and his comments that he wants the players to be playing in the champions league.
with the latest round of call ups we can see how `big club` biased the England setup is, not that we needed reminding!
chambers gets called up after a couple of decent games for arsenil yet I doubt roy would have even thought about him if he had still been here. roy said last season that clyne would be in with a chance but needed to play more often, which he has done since but still nothing, so roy was saying that saints needed to drop chambers for clyne, and now chambers is in. nothing against chambers but this whole situation stinks.
then roy also picks stones from everton, has he done more than clyne? no, clyne has played more games and to a higher standard.
having said that I would still love our players to get the caps they deserve as its only right that the best players get the chance to play for their countries.
we have lots of internationals representing different countries in our squad which can only be a good thing. they need to do us a favour now and tap up top players for us!
lets hope all our players come back injury free and ready to rip up the prem (sorry had to borrow poopey fans favourite saying).
