Hampshire have been crowned English champions for the first time since 1995, after triumphing in the Women's County Finals.

Torrential rain on the last day of competition forced the event to be concluded early, but the result was already well beyond doubt at that stage, after a week of utter dominance from captain Mags Clark's team.

Hampshire were the only side to finish with a perfect record, winning all four of their opening matches, while they added a fifth point after a clean sweep in their foursomes matches against Buckinghamshire this morning, before play was halted at Belton Park Golf Club.

It is the fourth time in the county's history that they have been crowned champions.

Clark said: "We are over the moon. At the start, we were simply thrilled to be here and day after day my team has got more and more solid.

"They are a terrific team and they have worked hard for Hampshire throughout the week."

Hampshire picked up an incredible total of 31 points from a possible 39 throughout the week.

They sealed victory with another imperious performance this morning, as Emma Allen and Kerry Smith combined for a 5&3 win in the opening foursomes match.

Sarah Bradshaw and Georgina Mundy bagged a two-hole victory, while Charlotte Barrow and Chris Quinn completed the whitewash with a 5&3 success.
