DANNY Bowers says Folland Sports enjoy having mountains to climb.

And they’re certainly going to need a head for heights if they are to reach the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.

The Sydenhams Premier outfit played out of their skins against Southern Premier Frome Town on Saturday to force a second qualifying round replay in Somerset tomorrow.

Should they come through that, the next mission would be akin to conquering Everest with a visit from Conference South leaders Boreham Wood on offer to tomorrow’s winners.

“We don’t like easy ties, we like mountains to climb!” smiled Bowers, who couldn’t have been prouder after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Frome at Follands Park.

It was the Planemakers who broke the deadlock when the excellent Ryan Long converted a 28th-minute penalty, but they were hit on the break ten minutes later as Ben Thomson headed home Ricky Hulbert’s cross.

In Bowers’ view, Frome were lucky to keep a full complement of players on the park after Frome keeper Darren Chitty had floored Long inside the area.

Chitty was shown yellow, but the Follands boss insisted: “He should have gone for clattering into Ryan. The ref said he (Long) was going away from goal, but he can’t have been because he was taken down on the penalty spot.

“Fair play to Ryan, he hadn’t scored since the opening game of the season and our skipper Jamie Barron asked if he wanted to take it. He said ‘yes’ and it was a great penalty.

“Saturday wasn’t about how well we played, it was about how hard the team worked for each other and shut Frome down. You wouldn’t have thought we were two leagues below them.”

Follands’ big fear is that work commitments will rule Long out of the replay. There are also question marks over Ryan Fuller and Mike Turvey, who are both carrying injuries, and whether Callum Brockway can get away from work in time.

“Ryan Long’s trying to change his work shift and I really hope he can. He was phenomenal on Saturday, he just ran and ran,” said Bowers.

“If our lads can produce tomorrow what they did on Saturday, we’ve got nothing to fear. But against these big sides, the luck’s got to be with you.”

Boreham Wood made hard work of beating East Preston 3-2 on Saturday – the Sussex League visitors coming within six minutes of forcing a draw.
