WINCHESTER City are ready for some more FA Cup island hopping after coming safely through tonight’s second qualifying round replay 1-0 at Newport IoW.

Zach Glasspool’s first-half winner lined up an October 11 trip to Canvey Island-based Concord Rangers of the Vanarama Conference South.

Having criminally blown a three-goal lead at the Denplan on Saturday, Winchester were far more solid defensively second time around.

But again they were guilty of wastefulness in front of goal with Chris Mason and Mike McEnery both squandering one-on-ones before Warren Bentley cut the ball back for Glasspool to find the bottom corner.

The second half was more evenly contested, but City still had chances with substitute Chris Manning and Bentley both denied by the woodwork.

“It’s amazing we can defend a one-goal lead but not a three-goal lead!” smiled City co-boss Danny Robinson.

“The game was just like Saturday’s, only this time we defended properly.

“We missed a few chances in the first half, but the players are back in our good books. Every single one of them did well.”

Concord beat ten-man Wealdstone 2-0 - Danny Glozier bagging both from the penalty spot. Beachboys keeper Jamie Butler, just called up for England C, was carried off injured.

Ex-Saint Matt Paterson claimed a hat-trick and the man-of-the-match award as Gosport Borough blitzed Larkhall Athletic 7-0 at Privett Park, setting up an all-Conference South trip to Maidenhead United. Steve Ramsey (2), Justin Bennett and Dan Wooden were also on target.

But it was the end of the FA Cup road for Poole Town, beaten 2-0 at home by Bath City (David Pratt, 2).

*Moneyfields, AFC Portchester and Bemerton HH all came back from behind to register Sydenhams Premier victories.

Moneys brushed aside a Simon Woods goal to blitz Fareham Town 6-1 and storm to the top of the table.

AFC Portchester (Craig Hardy, Alex Easton) edged Alresford Town 2-1 and Bemerton turned the tables on Lymington Town, 2-1, after James Davis had put the Linnets ahead.
