Ronald Koeman insists that Saints will continue to be the Premier League’s great entertainers.

Saints have thrilled their own supporters and neutrals alike with their brilliant start to the season, which continued with a 2-1 win over QPR last weekend.

On that occasion a stunning goal and wonderful attacking contributions from the club’s combined £30m summer signings Graziano Pelle, Sadio Mane and Dusan Tadic lit up St Mary’s.

With Saints currently second place in the table, it appears that Koeman’s decision to produce a team that can entertain and hope that delivers results is an effective one. It’s also one he has no intention of changing any time soon, even when Saints face some of the division’s big guns.

“(I am) satisfied about how we play because I think that’s football and that’s how everybody has to play,” said Koeman.

“QPR showed that in the second half and then football is to enjoy.

“OK, we know how important it is to win, but I believe in a way of playing that brings points and the spirit of the team and we showed a lot of character.”

Koeman has admitted his surprise at how well his new look squad has gelled so quickly after being assembled but believes the style of play might have something to do with it.

“A little bit (surprised) yes because always you have to wait after changes in the team,” commented Koeman.

“We had a good pre-season, we had some difficult moments in the club, a lot of people, even the press was a little bit afraid with questions about relegation, but we know what our qualities are. Football is to enjoy.

“Three points and a win is important but I believe in a way of playing that will bring points and that’s our ambition and it’s going well.“After the first matches away against Liverpool how we played at Anfield was important for everybody – the players and the fans – that we can play on a high level. Little by little we showed that and now it’s working hard every day to keep that. You know you can lose but you have to go with it.”

Mane is the talk of the town at the moment after his first St Mary’s start and Koeman (pictured below) is delighted with his new man.

“He had to wait for his work permission and now he’s in the team and working hard to bring the level and the competition in the team.“He showed last Tuesday (against Arsenal) and as well (against QPR) his qualities.

“He is very fast and was a little bit unlucky in the first 45 minutes but he is so dangerous because he is so fast and has good movement in attack and we need that kind of player.”
