Maya Yoshida will be spared international duty for Japan as he recovers from injury.
The centre half was not able to feature in the squad to face Tottenham but Saints were uncertain whether he may still have to travel to link up with his national side for their upcoming friendlies.
However, after conversations with the Japanese FA, he will stay in Southampton to receive treatment.
“Normally he is for one week more out and he will not go to the national team,” reported Koeman.
“We had good contact with the medical staff of the Japanese federation and they agreed Maya will not go away with the national team.”
