Fear: Miller approach is ‘pie in the sky’

With Miller not featuring of late, Southern One South & West rivals Bashley chanced their arm by lodging notice of approach for the towering, young centre-back.

But Fear confirmed: “Nothing’s going to happen with that one. It’s pie in the sky.

“Bashley are clutching at straws because Dan’s not been in the side lately.

“Dan’s not able to commit at the moment because he’s got a lot of university work.

“He’s based at Chichester, can’t get back for training and feels it would be unfair just to turn up and play on a Saturday.

“He should be back in the fold at Christmas-time but, at the moment, he’s just playing at university. He’s not even looking to play for a club down Chichester way. He wants to play for us but it’s awkward with his time-table.”

Miller, who went on as a substitute in May’s FA Vase triumph at Wembley, is one of several defenders Bashley have shown an interest in of late.

“Dan knows a few of the Bashley players but he hasn’t spoken to anyone down there,” said Fear.

After three successive cup matches, Sholing return to league action at home to Taunton Town tomorrow and away at Bridgwater on Tuesday.

They rested several players for Wednesday’s Russell Cotes Cup tie against Hampshire Leaguers Winchester Castle, but emerged 4-0 victors thanks to Nick Watts (2), Marvin McLean and Nathan Lynch.

“It could have been a lot more,” said Fear. “It was one of those games where you end up with a lot of the ball because you’re not closed down as quickly.

“The important thing was not to concede and to carry that through to Saturday.”

The Boatmen are ten points adrift of tomorrow’s fourth-placed visitors Taunton in 17th.

“We need a good performance, especially being at home,” said Fear. “We know they’re fourth and the players should be up for it.”

Barry Mason remains doubtful with an impact injury of the foot. “He’s walking okay and he’s not in continual pain. Hopefully it’s just bruising,” said Fear.
