THE inaugural Romsey and District Sports Awards night will celebrate the region’s sporting talent next weekend.

There have been 46 nominations across the 11 categories, which will help showcase the sporting achievements of individuals and clubs in and around the Romsey region in 2014, at Crossfield Hall on Saturday, November 8. It is organised by Valley Leisure, which runs The Rapids in Romsey, in partnership with The Romsey Advertiser, The Daily Echo and David Wilson Homes.

Neil Barker, activity development manager at Valley Leisure, said: “We have been really pleased by the quantity of nominations but it is their quality which has left the team at Valley Leisure so impressed. “Who knew there was so much talent in our district and so many volunteers giving time and effort to the development of sport in Romsey.” Congratulations to all those nominated. All of those shortlisted will receive a certificate while the winners will be awarded a trophy and a cash prize of £150.
