Morgan Schneiderlin is a doubt to face Arsenal on Wednesday night after being forced off at half time in Saints’ 3-0 St Mary’s defeat against Manchester City.

The Frenchman suffered a thigh problem during the first 45 minutes and was replaced at the break.

With Jack Cork missing from the squad through illness, and Harrison Reed overlooked by Ronald Koeman despite being the holding midfielder on the bench, Maya Yoshdia was introduced with Toby Alderweireld pushing into midfield.

Schneiderlin’s injury was unrelated to the problem he suffered while on international duty but with a game so soon he is touch and go to recover in time.

Koeman did admit that Schneiderlin’s substitution against City was a blow for his side.

“Maybe it’s always a little bit influence in the game because he’s an important player for us and we don’t have 24 players like they have to change in the second half for example and we know that,” said the Saints manager.

“If you do these kind of mistakes, the first goal maybe was a little bit unlucky the shot that went in, but it was not good enough and you have to be good to have a good chance for a point or three points and it wasn’t today.”
