A round-up of the Saints-related transfer stories appearing in the media today...

Saints defender Toby Alderweireld could sign permanently for the club in January, if reports are to be believed.

According to speculation in the Daily Mirror this morning, Ronald Koeman is keen to push through a quick deal for the on-loan Atletico Madrid defender, who has played a starring role in Saints' impressive season so far.

Saints hold an option to sign the 25-year-old when his loan expires at the end of the campaign - for £6.3m, according to The Mirror - although Alderweireld has previously said it is first up to Atletico to decide if they want to sell him, with the paper adding that the Spanish club can pay £1.5m to effectively buy back the option.

Speaking about his future next summer, Alderweireld said earlier this season: “I know Atletico decides, and that’s normal.

“Then, of course, Southampton can have a say, and, at the end, it’s my choice of course.

“But I promised to Southampton to give my 100 per cent this year, no matter what, so I will do that this season, and I will help the team, and then we have time enough to see where my future will be.

“I can’t say anything about it, because I don’t decide.

“Of course, I have my thoughts in it, but Atletico owns me, so it’s not up to me.”
