Michael Carberry struck Andrew Flintoff for successive sixes in guiding Perth Scorchers to another Big Bash win.

Batting at four, Carberry clattered an unbeaten 37-ball 77 – including six fours and SIX sixes - as Perth beat Brisbane Heat by eight wickets at the Waca.

Carberry began his assault by launching Mark Steketee’s seam-up over long off, before depositing left-armer Ryan Duffield over mid-wicket.

Perth were 88-2, chasing 133, when Flintoff stepped up to bowl the 13th over. Carberry responded with 17 off five balls.

The Hampshire batsman hit his first delivery from Flintoff for six over fine-leg before launching the next over long-off, where he also sent a one-bounce four in taking 16 off four balls.

Then he came down the track to hit veteran Kiwi slow left-armer Daniel Vettori over deep mid-wicket.

And after clearing his front leg he launched seamer Ben Cutting back over his head and over the sightscreen.

Carberry completed the rout by hitting Steketee for the winning runs, a four to the cover boundary, as Perth won with 25 balls to spare – their fourth victory in five games, in front of a crowd of 19,591.

His place was apparently ‘under pressure’ but Carberry is now the Big Bash League’s second top scorer (only teammate Michael Klinger has more than his 206 runs at 51.5) and a big favourite with the Scorchers fans.

“And @carbs646 is named Man of the Match & I reckon the #OrangeNation is in love with him now!!! #BBL04”, tweeted @ScorchersMD, an official Perth Scorchers account.

Carberry’s innings mirrored that of Durham’s Ben Stokes, who let his bat do the talking following his World Cup omission with a 37-ball 77 of his own, including five sixes, on his Melbourne Renegades debut 24 hours earlier.

“Are England players the only ones scoring runs in the #BigBash #Justsaying !!!” tweeted Michael Vaughan.

Perth play their penultimate group game against the Hobart Hurricanes on Sunday, when victory should be enough to secure a semi-final berth.
