Saints have been a dealt a fresh injury blow with the news that Morgan Schneiderlin is out for two-to-three weeks.
The French midfielder has injured his adductor.
Ronald Koeman is also without influential Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld for around three weeks with a thigh problem.
Thankfully for Koeman, Jack Cork is returning to fitness just at the right time to take over from Schneiderlin while he also has Harrison Reed as an option to partner Victor Wanyama.
Another piece of good news for Saints is the timing of the injury.
Though Schneiderlin will be ruled out of the trip to Newcastle at the weekend, if his injury does sideline him for just a fortnight then he should be able to face Swansea at St Mary's on February 1.
