The second batch of nominees for the Hampshire & Isle Of Wight Sports Awards, which take place at Saints’ St Mary’s Stadium on March 25.

Masters Sportsperson

Marina Cornwall, Powerlifting, Eastleigh: Won the World Powerlifting title in South Africa in 2014, winning a total of five medals and breaking two world records. Also retained her British Masters title.

Brian Tubb, Hockey, Eastleigh: Was a member of the England hockey team that won the Over 70’s World Cup in Holland.

Outstanding Personal Achievement

Bill Budd, Cycling, East Hampshire: Bill turned 60 last July 2014 and promptly embarked on a solo, 6,000 kilometre cycling challenge around Europe, taking on the Alps and Pyrenees for 60 days.

He was self-sufficient during this adventure, towing a trailer containing his lightweight tent plus all the necessary equipment he was likely to need. As a result, he raised over £9,000 for the Rosemary Foundation.

Gavin Downey, Judo & Karate, Basingstoke: Gavin has OCD in addition to severe cerebral palsy and spasticity.

Despite being hospitalised early last year, he recovered to win his first Kyu Brown Belt in Judo (one belt from Black) and his purple belt in Karate.

Isaac Fitzgerald, Football, Southampton: Isaac was diagnosed with leukaemia in December 2012.

Just after he finished his six months of heavy chemotherapy, he joined a football team.

Last season, the eight-year-old won a place in the team and in his first full match he scored a hat trick.

Scott Gilmour, Cycling, Test Valley: The 14-year-old completed The New Forest Wiggle 100-mile cycle ride.

He rents a road bike using money from his paper round as his family can’t afford to buy him a proper road bike. Scott completed the Three Peaks Challenge up and down in less than 24 hours when he was 12, raising over £6,000 for local charities.

Participation Coach

Adam Dominey, Squash, Isle of Wight: A Level 3 Advanced Qualified Coach with over 20 years coaching experience. He has provided taster sessions in over 20 schools on the IOW, and has also created four junior and two senior teams to represent the IOW in the Hampshire Leagues.

Richard Osborne, Sitting Volleyball, Portsmouth: Richard has delivered numerous sitting volleyball taster sessions to over 500 people, ranging from five-year olds to adults.

Rory Simpson, Handball, East Hampshire: The Head Coach at Alton Handball Clu organises club tournaments to ensure members have regular access to competitions. He also coaches the Southampton Solent University team, after-school clubs and an informal club based in Winchester.

Performance Coach

Graham Hurrell, Badminton, Winchester: He coaches the U17 England National Team, who won two golds and three silvers at the 2014 European Championships.

Is also the assistant head coach at Westgate Performance Centre based in Winchester, who won three golds, 2 silvers and seven bronze at the 2014 National Championships.

Graham Pople, Swimming, Portsmouth: The head coach at Havant & Waterlooville Swimming Club. Under his leadership, Havant won the National Arena League South Division 1 West and was promoted to the South Premier League for the first time in the club’s history.

Keith Richardson, Gymnastics, Eastleigh: (pictured right) Has obtained Master coach award level, the highest coaching qualification in his spot. His current gymnast is Kelly Simm, who was British Vault champion 2014 and a member of the England team who won gold at the Commonwealths. Is also one of Dynamo Gymnastics Club’s head coaches and mentors over 25 coaches at the club.

Official

Ross Murphy, Football, Eastleigh: A Level 5 referee, last year he joined the National Young Referee Development Programme representing Hampshire. He referees in local leagues and for his college, and is also the Referee Appointment Secretary for the Winchester Girls League.

Gerry Reilly, Taekwondo, Basingstoke@ Last year he qualified as a British Taekwondo Poomsae judge and was selected as only one of six UK Poomsae Judges to attend the Commonwealth Championships.

Steve Snodden, Athletics, Basingstoke: Is qualified in Photofinish, Track Officiating, Field Judging and Timekeeping. Last year he was one of the few England Athletics Officials to be selected for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Club of the Year

Swallows Trampoline Club, East Hampshire: Swallows’ committee have been increasing the club’s awareness, particular among disadvantaged children, low income families and children/young adults with disabilities.

Trojans Hockey Club, Eastleigh: With 744 players, 30 coaches, 20 managers and 15 officials, Trojans Hockey Club has a cradle to grave approach catering for grass root sport, participation and elite performance.
