Saints are plotting a move for Micah Richards, 26, if they lose full-back Nathaniel Clyne to Manchester United in the summer, according the Sunday People.
The paper reports that Saints executive director Les Reed is aware that Richards is an option but Southampton are also keeping tabs on AZ Alkmaar’s Swedish right-back Mattias Johansson.
Richards, currently on loan at Italian side Fiorentina, will be out of contract at the end of the season and is open to a move to the south coast.
