Dusan Tadic admits it will be a strange experience to find himself on the opposite side to Jose Fonte tomorrow as Serbia and Portugal go head-to-head in a crunch Euro 2016 qualifier.

The countries meet in a huge Group I clash, in Lisbon, meaning Tadic and fellow Serbian Filip Djuricic could find themselves in the unusual position of facing their Saints teammate.

Tadic agreed it would be a strange situation, but added that it is one he has experienced before and that it will not cross the players’ minds once the game has started.

“Yes [it will be strange], but this is normal,” he said.

“We are professionals and we are used to play like that. This is not something new for us.”

Tadic also revealed that the subject of the match had already been the topic of discussion in the Saints dressing room between himself, Djuricic and Fonte.

“Yeah, a little bit,” he said, smiling.

“We’re going to see, it’s going to be a really interesting game.”

The match certainly has significant implications in the battle for qualification in Group I.

Portugal are currently second in the standings, with six points from three matches.

Denmark lead the way with seven points, but they have played a game more.

Serbia are down in fourth place, with just one point from their first three fixtures.

Their lowly total is partly a result of being docked three points for the trouble that caused the abandonment of their clash with Albania earlier in the campaign.

For both countries, therefore, the contest is a vital one.

“It’s a big game and it’s going to be one of the decisive matches,” said Tadic.

The match kicks off at 7.45pm.
