Foreign Secretary Robin Cook yesterday headed for Moscow for the first visit by a member of the new Labour government to Russia.
The Minister will discuss a range of foreign issues, including Nato expansion and the Bosnian situation, with his Russian counterpart Yevgeni Primako.
He will also meet representatives from major British companies with significant stakes in Russia in an attempt to boost Anglo-Soviet trade on the three-day trip.
