Sat Nov 10, 11pm-4am, Soundhaus, Hyde Park Street, Glasgow, £12 (£10), 0141 221 4659 As anniversaries go, the 20th birthday of acid house is a milestone of which many clubbers will have only a vague memory. A bit like the sixties, those who remember it probably weren't there.

Many arguments have ignited this year over the origins of acid house, and while some still like to claim it was British born and bred, others point to the Chicago scene and DJ Pierre, who plays Inner City Acid's third birthday at the Soundhaus this weekend.

With his Roland TB-303 - a bass guitar synthesizer and sequencer - Pierre helped create the sound that would jump start the UK's last great youth subculture movement. Along with Spanky and Herb J, Pierre founded the group Phuture 303 - their epic Acid Trax lays claim to being one of the first acid-house singles.

"Since I first stared exploring house and techno music DJ Pierre was always a name I knew from friends' record collections and mix tapes and over time you appreciate the influence he's had on the scene," says ICA resident Monsieur DeLarge. "He was arguably the first to create the acid-house sound so it also seems very fitting that he, on the 20th anniversary of acid house, comes to Glasgow to play ICA on an anniversary for us."
