WALTER SMITH wants to continue his love affair with the Co-operative Insurance Cup - by winning it for an 11th time.

The Rangers manager takes his side into quarter-final action tonight against Hamilton Accies at Ibrox. Smith was involved in two wins in the tournament during his days at Dundee United, and has been successful on eight occasions at Rangers as assistant to Graeme Souness and then boss in his own right.

Last year, he ended a barren spell of almost three years without silverware for the Ibrox men when Rangers beat United on penalties to win the competition.

And, after a disastrous European exit to FBK Kaunas in August, Smith is very much driven by a desire to retain the newly-named Co-op Cup.

The Rangers manager said today: "I have enjoyed great success in the tournament and, of course, it would be nice for that to continue this season.

"The League Cup has provided me with some great memories, going back to my days at United and then coming to Rangers when we enjoyed a fair degree of success.

"I think Ally McCoist has 10 medals. So we will be trying as hard as we can to add to that, and it would be nice to get ahead of him!

"We obviously have no European matches this season which is a huge blow, so we want to do as well as we can in the domestic cups and of course the SPL championship.

"Last year we managed to win the League Cup and the Scottish Cup in the midst of a tough fixture schedule and we want to hold onto them."

Meantime, reports today claimed that full-back Stevie Smith has been told he can move on in January. Smith has suffered major injury problems in the past couple of years but is fit again.

He wants regular football now, but that may not be guaranteed with Sasa Papac ahead of him. Ipswich have expressed an interest.

Tickets for tonight's game are on sale right up until kick-off from the Rangers Ticket Centre at Ibrox. Prices are £18 for adults and £5 for kids.
