A children's charity is urging people to take the plunge and sign up for a Chinese-style dragon boat challenge.

Organisers are looking for teams to take part and raise funds for Bobath Scotland, a Glasgow-based charity for youngsters with cerebral palsy.

The colourful regatta will be held at Balloch Castle Country Park on Loch Lomondside on Saturday June 9, and organisers hope around 500 people in 30 teams will take part in the eighth annual sail as a crowd of around 4000 look on.

Val Crawford, Bobath Scotland event organiser, said teams from across the country are already registering for the race, which last year raised £50,000.

Donations allow Bobath Scotland to offer hundreds of children a holistic approach to the treatment of cerebral palsy.

Val said: "We urge anyone who's looking for a great family day out to come along on the day."

Race prizes will be awarded to the winning team, the runners-up, the team to raise the highest sponsorship total, the highest individual participant sponsorship total, and the best fancy dress team.

Teams of 16 must raise a minimum sponsorship total of £900, and the entry fee per boat is £400.
