YOUNG musicians David Munn and Elspeth MacDonald, right, had a laugh as they limbered up for the Glasgow Music Festival.

Cellist David, 18, and violinist Elspeth, 15, are both pupils at Douglas Academy, Milngavie.

David won two awards, in the modern string solo and concerto solo sections. He returns today to take part in the strings premier class for category winners.

The pair were among hundreds of musicians competing on the fourth day of the festival.

One of yesterday's biggest winners was 14-year old St Aloysius College pupil Andrew Shaw, below, who won his fourth reading award.

Andrew had already captured the TV Newsreading, Prepared Speech and Prepared Reading prizes.

And yesterday he took top spot in the Bible Reading section.

His mother Angela said: "He has had a great time so far.

"I would say he has a natural flair for reading but he has still had to practice."

Andrew also represents his school at athletics.
