A Twitter campaign created by Saints fans is gaining momentum as supporters urge their peers to vote for Dejan Lovren as Liverpool’s player of the season, writes Jack Rosser.

The vote, which is open to anyone on Liverpool’s website, is being hijacked by Saints fans with many claiming that he has thoroughly entertained Saints fans this season with his performances for Liverpool having struggled somewhat this campaign.

Lovren left St Mary’s for Anfield last summer for £20m, along with Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert, but the manner in which he departed left many Saints fans feeling bitter after he told Liverpool’s website: "After I played at Anfield last season, I said to myself: 'One day I hope I'll be able to play here for Liverpool'”.

There are similar vote swaying schemes underway among Manchester United and Arsenal fans who are both backing Mario Balotelli for the award.
