A prep school in Princes Risborough is to get a new headteacher at the beginning of the next school year.

Simon Detre will leave his role as senior deputy head at St Anthony’s School in Hampstead and take on the new role at St Teresa’s Catholic School, on Aylesbury Road, in September.

Mr Detre, who lives in Chalfont St Peter, says he is delighted to take over from current headteacher Thalia Milton at the independent prep school and nursery.

“St Teresa’s is a really interesting school with lots of potential. It’s really punching above its weight in terms of the results it gets. It’s a really exciting school and a very interesting time to be taking over.

“I have to pay tribute to Mrs Milton, she has done a tremendous job of nurturing the school and I'm very lucky to be taking it over at the time I am. I'm really looking forward to starting, it’s very exciting.”

The teacher, who has worked at Westminster Abbey in the past, is keen to focus on the wellbeing of the pupils.

He said: “It’s really important we take care of the children and I'm very keen on pastoral care and getting to know them. By getting to know them we can improve their educational outcomes.

“There’s a really strong team of staff who are devoted to getting to know the children and ensuring their education is as good as it can be.”
