HOME debutant Graham Kemp’s hopes of notching up three points were dashed at home to Blackfield and Langley.

David Jerrard’s strike looked enough to give Bemerton Heath Harlequins victory, and Kemp’s second since replacing Ian Chalk, but the Hampshire high-fliers had other ideas.

Ekow Elliott, who netted in Bemerton’s FA Vase exit in November, came up trumps again. His effort five minutes after the restart helped The Watersiders to a point at Western Way as he salvaged a 1-1 draw.

Kemp rounds off his mini-spell in charge this season with the visit of Bournemouth Poppies on Saturday (3pm) before putting his plans in place for 2015/16.

Victory would see them finish level on points with Hamworthy United and Andover Town, and Horndean if they fall down at home to already-relegated Totton and Eling.

Nine miles away at Wick Lane, there was a spectacular finish for Downton, who completed their first season back in Wessex Division One with a spring in their step following last year’s relegation.

The 3-2 win ensured the Robins had something to cheer about as well as celebrating gloveman Charlie Aldridge completing 150 games between the sticks for them.

After going behind to Joshua Harvey’s early goal, the hosts hit back through Ross Bentall’s individual effort. Declan McGregor put Downton in front but that was cancelled out two minutes after the break by Jordana Prince.

Ben Vincent’s second-half free-kick, which was parried by the visiting keeper, fell kindly to an alert Tommy Aldridge who slotted home the winner.

The win puts Robins in 12th place and that’s where they will stay unless Andover New Street win on Saturday.
