Toby Alderweireld could be fit for Saturday’s game against Tottenham.

The Belgian international was stretchered off in the closing stages of Saints’ 2-1 defeat at Stoke last weekend and reports in his homeland claimed that Alderweireld had fractured his shoulder, a potentially season ending injury.

However, Koeman insists that Alderweireld trained with the first team and could be fit to take on Spurs.

He said: “Toby Alderweireld did his first training session today and if there was not any reaction he will be fit for Saturday.”

He added: “Filip Djuricic is still out. It’s taken more time than we expected.

“The rest is the same. Wanyama suspended and no more updates about that.”

Saturday’s game sees the much anticipated return of former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Koeman, though, is hoping the fans focus their energies on getting behind his side.

“If the fans are supporting the home team that’s the best what we need and what the manager needs and what the players need.

“It has to be respectful but that’s all about the fans and I can’t change that.

“That’s the feeling, the message of the fans, and you have to respect that.”

Koeman also confirmed he has no plans to draft Under-21 Premier League Cup winning goalscorer Sam Gallagher into the squad for this weekend.

“No because we have at the moment enough players in our first team but of course it’s one of the players that did a great job last Monday,” said Koeman, who was at St Mary’s to watch the triumph over Blackburn.

“I don’t like to mention one player because the whole team was amazing with a fantastic spirit in the team.

“We know we have a lot of young players and Sam Gallagher was struggling this season with several injuries and little by little he is back in his physical state you need to play the first team.

“Five games left of the season and sometimes he will be part of the training sessions but to come in the first 18 is quite difficult.”
