JAMES Ward-Prowse revealed that the reception from supporters on Saints’ lap of appreciation gave him goosebumps.

The players conducted a lap of the pitch after their 6-1 demolition of Aston Villa – their last home match of the season – to thank the fans for their support during a memorable campaign.

Unsurprisingly, they received a fantastic reception from the crowd.

“It gives goosebumps to me especially, obviously the great season we’ve had and the support,” said Ward-Prowse.

“You can see how much it means to them and us as players to give them that is great.”

The midfielder added that it was a day to remember all round, as Saints stormed to their second biggest home win of the campaign.

“I think on the pitch you could tell they (Villa) were struggling and not coping with our attacking players, which is obviously credit to us,” said Ward-Prowse.

“It was a great day for us and one to remember.”

It was also one that Saints needed, as they continue to try to secure a European spot.

“We know Swansea are right up behind us and we needed to get the win to keep the momentum going and boost our chances of European football,” he said.

“It’s a very important win.”
