You report that the Nationalist administration has, after spending £100,000 on court costs, quietly withdrawn its objections to Freedom Of Information requests on the costs of its temporarily- abandoned Local Income Tax policy ("Parties demand SNP pays back tax plan cash", The Herald, July 15).

It is quite reprehensible that the SNP has cynically wasted £100,000 of taxpayers’ money for the blatantly party-political aim of keeping this information from the public until after the Scottish elections.

Surely there must be an investigation by the Scottish Parliament into this disgraceful affair.
