THE sale of a £1.35 million house which was the scene of a fire that killed a prominent businessman has been put on hold.

The eight-bedroom property – The Parsonage, in Airth, Stirlingshire – was being marketed by estate agent Savills but has been removed from the market.

Father-of-two Christophe Ferrand, 44, European chief operating officer with Aegon Global Asset Management, died earlier this month when a fire broke out in one of the bedrooms of the house.

His wife Audrey, 45, injured her leg in the blaze and the couple’s two young children suffered smoke inhalation.

The secluded house, set in 15 acres of land, was badly damaged in the fire.

A spokesman for Savills said the marketing of the property had been “temporarily put on hold”.

Central Scotland Police said they were not looking for anyone in connection with the fire.

The spokesman said: “A full investigation has been carried out and the fire was found to be caused by an electrical appliance. The fire is not being treated as any way suspicious.”

Mr Ferrand’s funeral was held two weeks ago in France.

The fire broke out at about 5am on July 5. The flames quickly spread and fire crews used six tenders and an aerial platform to tackle it as it spread across the roof.

The 45 firefighters finally brought the blaze under control at 7.45am.

The accountant was later pronounced dead at Stirling Royal Infirmary.
