HAMPSHIRE all-rounder Will Smith has had his achievements for the club recognised by being awarded his county cap.

Club Chairman Rod Bransgrove made the presentation on the Ageas Bowl outfield before the opening day of Hampshire’s LV= County Championship match against Worcestershire.

Smith joined from Durham at the end of the 2013 season and enjoyed a fantastic first year with Hampshire, contributing in all three formats of the game.

The 32-year old played an important role with the bat during Hampshire’s triumphant four-day campaign in 2014, hitting 1,000 County Championship runs in a season for the first time in his career.

Despite being primarily brought to the club for his batting, Smith enjoyed a hugely successful season with the ball in the NatWest T20 Blast.

His naggingly accurate off-spin quickly became a big part of the attack and Smith finished the T20 Blast season the sixth highest wicket-taker in the competition with 20 dismissals.

At the end of the season, the right-handed batsman was named the 2014 Players’ Player of the Year. Smith has hit 250 runs, averaging 35, in his opening six LV= County Championship Division One matches in 2015.

He has also taken five wickets at an average of just 14 from Hampshire’s opening three NatWest T20 Blast matches.
