Manchester United will only move for Morgan Schneiderlin if they fail to land Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The Daily Star reports that United are trying a seemingly unlikely £10m raid for Bayern Munich's German international star first.
If they do not land him then they will switch their attentions to Saints star Schneiderlin, and table a £20m offer.
The Daily Star also reports that Ronald Koeman would like Javier Hernandez, much linked with a move to Saints over the last 18 months, to be included as part of any deal.
That though has added complications with Real Madrid having an option to sign him permanently after his loan spell with the club.
