SHOLING made it nine goals scored and just one conceded in pre-season as their winning streak continued against Gosport Borough’s development squad last night.

The Boatmen – 2-0 victors at Liss Athletic and Cove – this time ran out 5-1 winners at Privett Park.

With Dan Dove, Rory Anderson and Kevin Brewster all picking up injuries, Ryan Gosney kept goal and Jack Smith, Dean Faithfull, Pete Castle and Jamie Bulpitt returned to the squad.

Sholing drew first blood after 13 minutes when skipper Byron Mason centred for centre-back Castle to tap home from inside the six-yard box.

But it was the Boatmen’s second goal, scored on 33 minutes, that prised open the floodgates.

Gosport's youngsters struggled to clear a corner and new Sholing signing Lewis Kelly cracked the ball home via the underside of the crossbar.

Ninety seconds later midfielder Alex Sawyer intercepted a stray pass before making it 3-0 and, within four minutes, the Borough net was bulging again when Tobi Adekunle found the top corner from 20 yards.

Manager Dave Diaper introduced young Owen Roundell in place of Castle for the start of the second half having already thrown on ex-AFC Totton man Bulpitt for Smith, who had a tight hamstring.

Two further changes followed shortly after the hour with James Davis making way for Liam Golding and returning striker Mike Spinney continuing his comeback to fitness in place of Kelly.

No sooner had the game settled down again than Dan Mason saw his effort strike the bar.

A 35-yard stunner from Gosport gave Gosney no chance, but Dan Mason soon restored the Boatmen’s four-goal cushion, making it 5-1 on 82 minutes.

Mason tweeted afterwards: “Good to get my 1st 90 mins under the belt last night and cap it with a goal, plenty of them to come this season.”

Sholing are due to continue their pre-season build-up at Arundel on Saturday.

They go to South Park on Saturday week (August 1) and then round things off at home to Southern League new boys Petersfield Town on August 4.

They make their return to Sydenhams Premier action the following Saturday (August 8) at Graham Rix’s AFC Portchester.
