The Daily Echo brings you a round-up of the transfer stories making the headlines across the rest of the media...

Saints have failed in an attempt to re-sign defender Calum Chambers on a season-long loan, according to the Mirror.

The paper reports that Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has knocked back an approach from Ronald Koeman's side and has ruled out any move away, with other Premier League clubs allegedly keen to sign the young England player.

The 20-year-old moved from St Mary's to the Emirates Stadium last summer in a £16million deal after an impressive season at Saints in which he shared right-back responsibilities with Nathaniel Clyne, who has now moved to Liverpool.

Chambers made a great initial impression at Arsenal, but fell down the pecking order later in the campaign.

Saints are on the hunt for a new defender after an injury to Florin Gardos and missing out on Toby Alderweireld, who moved to Tottenham.

Chambers would have fitted the bill perfectly, considering his versatility. But Wenger wants to keep the Petersfield born player.

Saints have been looking at a number of options in defence and have apparently been tracking Celtic centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

Dijk is also a target for Everton, with the Merseysiders reportedly willing to shell out £10million on the Dutchman.

Meanwhile the Mirror has reported that striker Emmanuel Mayuka is set to join Russian side Spartak Moscow.

The 24-year-old Zambian international has struggled since his arrival from Swiss club Young Boys in 2012.

Mayuka has scored one goal for Saints and made 16 Premier League appearances since his £3million switch.

The paper suggests that Spartak are eyeing a move for the frontman, who has not been given a squad number for the coming season.
