ELLIS Bellamy – son of former Wales, Manchester City and Liverpool forward, Craig – was among the Eastleigh trialists in tonight’s 1-1 draw at Salisbury.

Watched by a 561 crowd at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium, the Spitfires took the lead midway through the second half through Jack Midson only to lose it again when Sam Roberts levelled for Steve Claridge’s Sydenhams Wessex new boys with around 15 minutes to go.

Spitfires boss Richard Hill left most of his star names on the bench for the first half and included four trialists in his starting XI along with young guns Lewis Noice, Jack Smith, Tony Lee and Jack Masterton.

Former Bristol Rovers youngster Jack Alexander was given another run-out, along with fellow trialists Bellamy – a former Cardiff City under-18 and Wales youth winger/striker, ex- Woking, Braintree and Grimsby left-back Aswad Thomas and Joe Devera, a 28-year-old former Barnet and Swindon Town defender recently released by Portsmouth after two years at Fratton Park.

After a largely uneventful first half, the Spitfires made seven changes for the start of the second with National League heavyweights Joe Partington, Midson, Ben Strevens, Andy Drury, Jai Reason, James Constable and Yemi Odubade all going on.

They made their mark just after the hour when Drury burst forward and played a one-two with Reason before setting up Midson for a tidy finish.

Salisbury levelled with a header by Roberts, who played for Lymington Town last term, and it ended all square despite late efforts from Midson and Strevens.

Eastleigh have one last friendly, at home to League Two new boys Barnet on Saturday (3pm), before kicking off the Vanarama National season at Southport on August 8.
