Saints have fresh injury worries to contend with ahead of Saturday’s game against Everton.

The club had expected Jordy Clasie to be fit again but his ankle problem has reacted badly and now is set sideline him for two-to-three weeks.

Also ruled out of the Everton game is Steven Caulker, who has spent a couple of days in hospital with sinus problems.

With Ryan Bertrand, Fraser Forster and Florin Gardos all still out, it leaves Saints a little short at the back.

“We have some difficulties about the injuries,” reported Koeman.

“Everybody knows the situation of Fraser and Florin.

“Jordy Clasie was back about his hamstring and played last Monday. He had to play 60 minutes and got an ankle injury and will be out for the next two to three weeks.

“Steven Caulker has an infection in his sinuses and was in the hospital for two days and is not in a good physical for the weekend. We have good hope he will be available for next Thursday.

“Ryan Bertrand is not available and hopefully he will be back in two weeks.”

Speaking of the defensive problems Koeman added: “A little bit yes but normally we will have one defender on the bench this Saturday and that’s not normal but we have to accept it.

“We are still working to bring in one defender but a little bit unlucky to have two centre backs with injuries and Ryan injured as well.”

The good news for Saints is that Koeman himself is recovering well from his Achilles operation and will be on the bench for the visit of the Toffees.
