SOUTHAMPTON midfielder Gaston Ramirez wants to tear up his contract and return to Uruguay, according to reports.

The Daily Mirror suggest the £12m signing is negotiating with the club to cancel the final 10 months of his £65,000-per-week deal.

As reported by the Daily Echo, Saints have been reviewing their options on Ramirez and Ronald Koeman has considered sending him on loan to the Championship after admitting the Uruguayan is not in his plans.

But it is understood Ramirez would rather rejoin Penarol in his home country, where he began his professional career.

Ramirez signed for Saints in August 2012 and has scored six goals in 45 Premier League appearances since his move from Bologna in Serie A.

He was on loan at relegated Hull City for most of last season.
