HE’S 36 years old and, as the old saying goes, has had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus.

But, according to Brockenhurst boss Pat McManus, Jefferson Louis will pose a serious threat when the Badgers entertain Wealdstone in the FA Cup third qualifying round on Saturday week (October 10).

A stickler for preparation, McManus travelled to Bedfordshire on Tuesday to watch Biggleswade host Wealdstone of the National League South in a second qualifying round replay, with the winners destined for Grigg Lane.

And it was higher-league Wealdstone who emerged 2-0 victors with 6ft 2in targetman Louis – who has over 30 clubs adorning his CV, including Eastleigh and Havant & Waterlooville – scoring their first goal.

“It underlined what I’d expected, that it’s going to be a hard task for us,” said McManus.

“We’re going to have our work cut out, but you’d expect that. They’re three leagues higher.

“Wealdstone are everything you’d expect them to be. They’ve got quality and they don’t make a lot of mistakes on the ball.

“Jefferson Louis is physically big and strong. He’s the focal point of their attack and he’s going to be a handful.

In stark contrast to their dazzling Cup form, Brock have won just two of their seven league games and occupy 16th spot in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

On Saturday they visit fifth-placed AFC Portchester who will want instant pay-back for last weekend’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Grigg Lane, settled by a Scott Joyce goal.

Brock have already fallen victim of a revenge attack this season, battering Bournemouth Poppies 6-2 in the Hampshire Senior Cup only to lose 4-3 against them in the FA Vase four days later.

“The two performances were chalk and cheese and we need to avoid that happening again. League performances are really important to us,” stressed McManus.

“Everyone’s available and we’ve got a full week’s rest before the Wealdstone game, so it’s not in our minds to rest anyone on Saturday.”

Brock will be one of two teams flying the Wessex flag in the FA Cup third qualifying round.

Blackfield & Langley - rampant 6-1 winners at Wimborne last week - are at home to Winchester City's conquerors Maidenhead, also of the National League South.
