Graziano Pelle has vowed to do all he can to help Jordy Clasie settle into life at Saints and insists everybody at the club is confident the Dutch maestro will become a massive player for the team.

Clasie made his much anticipated first Premier League start for Saints in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

The midfielder put in a display which impressed manager Ronald Koeman, and showed promising signs of a strong partnership with engine room powerhouse Victor Wanyama.

Pelle played alongside Clasie at Feyenoord, from where Saints signed both of them over successive summers.

Italian striker Pelle is doing all he can to help his friend adapt to life in England and the Premier League, and has every confidence that Clasie will prove a valuable asset for the club.

He said: “He’s a great person, a great guy, and I will help him for sure if he needs because everybody needs help.

“But he will do well (here).

“He’s just comeback from injury. Unfortunately he missed the start of the season. That is really important for you to settle quicker and now he is already in the important part of the season and coming back from injury.

“It won’t be that easy for him, but everybody is confident in him, all the club and team, and we for sure we always are going to help him to be back.”

After the 1-1 draw at Anfield, which extended Saints’ unbeaten away stretch in the Premier League, they turn their attentions to the Capital One Cup.

Aston Villa are the visitors to St Mary’s tomorrow night with the sides competing for a place in the quarter-finals.

With Wembley then looming into sight, and ambitions at St Mary’s set on some silverware, Pelle and his teammates are taking the League Cup very seriously indeed.

Though the Premier League tends to dominate thoughts, Saints are striving for the best they can reach in every competition.

And, after reaching the quarter-finals last year only for a nightmare evening at Sheffield United to result in an untimely exit, Saints will be fully focussed on the Villa test.

“My ambitions as myself and as a team we want to do the best we can reach. Try to win every game, but never has a team won every game in a season,” said Pelle.

“So we have to be realistic and try to achieve what we deserved during the working process in this season.

“We have to work hard every week to improve. A the end of the season, we will see but we want to achieve a high up position as possible.”
