FORMER Saints star Andrew Surman returns to St. Mary’s this Sunday for the first time since he left the club in 2009.

The Saints academy graduate makes the return with south coast rivals Bournemouth, with the Cherries fresh from back to back Premier League five-goal canings by Manchester City and Tottenham, writes JACK ROSSER.

“Yeah of course I have been looking forward to it, but it’s a big game against Southampton on Sunday as well as it being a big one for me personally,” he said.

“I haven’t been back since I left and I have really fond memories from when I was there,”

Surman, now 29, added. “I am really looking forward to playing there, hopefully we can come away with a good result.”

Surman left Saints in 2009 for then Premier League side Wolves, before moving to Norwich.

Daily Echo:

Andrew Surman celebrates scoring against Stoke in 2006.

After a loan spell at Cherries in 2013/14, he made his move to the Cherries permanent last year and played a key role in winning the Championship title.

Surman could have made a return whilst he was at Norwich but an injury kept him out of the side.

Surman left just days before the club was bought by Markus Leibherr and therefore the team he will face on Sunday will be very different from the one that he left behind.

Kelvin Davis is still there,” he said: “I used to room with him at Saints, so he’s the only one really that I know.

"Thereis a few people in the background still working there, so it will be good to see them.

"Obviously the most important thing we are looking for is to go there and come away with a result.”
