FLY-HALF Rob Heighway was instrumental in Romsey’s 59-12 victory at Aldershot & Fleet which keeps them top of Snows Group Hampshire 2.

Heighway got one of the leaders’ ten tries but was awarded man of the match for Romsey for his great distribution and tactical kicking.

Romsey were in the driving seat by half time as PJ Boden and Dan Penn helped themselves to a couple of tries each.

Jack Groves went one better after the break when he scored a hat-trick of tries and there were singles from Heighway, Michael Peace and Kevin White.

Romsey have a seven-point advantage at the top of the table as they approach the season’s half-way point. Fawley kept the leaders within their grasp with a 39-16 at Southsea Nomads. Captain Dave Johnston got the ball rolling as he touched down from a scrum and teammate Lewis Rennison doubled the score when he went over.

Nomads hit back with three quick penalties and could have gone into half time in front, but for a missed drop goal attempt and a wayward penalty.

But it was all Fawley after the interval.

Johnston got his second and Wayne Cleary brought up the bonus point, Joe Jordan struck with two tries and newcomer Bret Park finished off the visitors' scoring.

Nomads also scored a converted try in the last five minutes.

Southampton picked up their third win of the season (17-15) at bottom-side Kingsclere.
