Ronald Koeman has revealed his January transfer window plans at Saints.

Koeman says at this stage the most he expects to do is sign one striker – but only if Graziano Pelle and Jay Rodriguez take time to return to action.

Pelle is currently resting a niggling knee injury, which will again keep him out of the Saints side for this weekend’s game at Norwich.

Rodriguez has had surgery on his foot, and is looking likely to make a return at the end of January or beginning of February.

Koeman will assess the pair in a week’s time. If they are struggling, he will look at the possibility of trying to sign a new striker.

If they are recovering well then the club are unlikely to do any business in January.

He said: “I am not a manager that I am in panic because we have the 12th position on the table. No, it’s not like that. I don’t do business like this.

“We know our players, we know our qualities.

“If there is something to do business it’s how we cope with Pelle in the next couple of weeks and how Jay Rodriguez will come back.

“These are two strikers, two good players, and if we don’t have them back then maybe it’s a question to sign a good striker.

“Not other positions in the team. We have enough competition and I am pleased with the squad.”

Koeman has made it clear that no star names will be sold during January, and also dismissed speculation that Steven Caulker’s season long loan spell from QPR could be ended early to allow him a permanent move to Crystal Palace.

The Saints boss said: “My plan for Steven is that he stays until the end of the season and then we need to make a decision because he is on loan for one season.”
