LEE Barnard was Saints’ hero when the club last won at the ground they visit tomorrow.

The striker scored both goals on February 20 2010 when Alan Pardew’s Saints won 2-0 at Norwich City.

It was a great win – Norwich entered the game four points clear at the top of League 1 while Saints, hampered by their 10-point deduction, were 15th.

The Canaries had only suffered one defeat in 15 league games at Carrow Road, and that had been on the opening day – a 7-1 humiliation by Colchester United.

Barnard scored in the 33rd and 77th minutes, with the hosts having Darel Russell sent off just after the hour mark.

They were the forward’s first goals for Saints, in his sixth game.

And they were scored against a young goalkeeper who was on loan to the Canaries at the time from Newcastle – current Saint Fraser Forster.

Barnard had been signed the previous month for £175,000 from League 1 rivals Southend, after plundering 17 goals for the Shrimpers in half a season, and his brace in East Anglia kickstarted a run of six goals in five games for his new club.

Barnard would go on to net 23 third tier goals for Saints, and was second top scorer with 15 when the club won promotion from League 1 in 2010/11.

Since then, however, the goals have dried up.

Since the start of the 2011/12 season, Barnard has only scored 12 league goals.

After falling out of favour under Nigel Adkins during Saints’ 2011/12 Championship promotion season, he was sent on loan to Bournemouth, Oldham and former club Southend.

On being released in the summer of 2014, he returned to Southend permanently.

Barnard only made two League 2 starts for the Essex club in 2014/15, and was sent on loan to Stevenage shortly after the season started.

His last competitive goals came in November 2014 when he scored twice for Stevenage against Cheltenham.

Joining Crawley last summer, Barnard – now 31 - has yet to score in 15 fourth tier appearances – 11 of which have come off the bench.

Jose Fonte is the only player who appeared for Saints at Carrow Road in February 2010 who will line up for the club tomorrow.

Goalkeeper Kelvin Davis also remains at St Mary’s.

Four others – Jason Puncheon, Morgan Schneiderlin, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana – remain in the Premier League. Dean Hammond is currently on loan at Sheffield United, while Dan Harding is at Eastleigh.

The other two men who started for Saints at Carrow Road in their last win – defenders Radhi Jaidi and Jon Otsemobor – are both retired.
