WINCHESTER City strike sensation Warren Bentley netted his 100th club goal in tonight’s priceless 3-0 win at Marlow.

Bentley, yet to complete two seasons as a Citizen, struck twice and Jamie Barron once as City trimmed the gap on Southern One South & West leaders Cinderford Town to just one point having played two games more.

Bentley’s 31st-minute opener – described as “a thing of beauty” on the club Twitter feed – found the top corner from 25 yards after great work from Barron and Micky Hubbard.

Two minutes later the former Alresford Town goal machine brought up his century of City strikes with another unerring finish.

The second half was a scrappy affair which saw Marlow hit the crossbar before Barron added Winchester’s third deep into stoppage time, rounding the keeper and rolling the ball home.

Marlow finished the game with ten men.

While City romped to glory, league leaders Cinderford were somewhat surprisingly held 0-0 at home by Simon Browne’s Wimborne Town.

But possibly the biggest news of the night came from Bashley where Tom Prodomo’s Foresters finally banked their first point of the season at the 27th time of asking, drawing 0-0 with Mangotsfield United.

Sholing let slip a two-goal lead en route to a 3-2 extra time defeat at Newport IoW in the Sydenhams League Cup quarter-final.

The Boatmen led through a Kev Brewster penalty and a sublime Alex Sawyer volley before Connor Kelly and Liam Bennett dragged the Islanders back on terms. Debutant Lewis Keeble won it for Port with a late penalty.

The massively delayed Hampshire FA Senior Cup third round tie between Totton & Eling and Horndean ended 5-3 in the Deans’ favour on Alton Town’s 3G surface. Basingstoke Town await them in the quarter-final.

*Northwood beat Godalming Town 2-0 in the Red Insure Cup last night, earning a March 2 trip to Winchester City in the quarter-finals.
