Ronald Koeman is hoping it won’t be another 40 years before Saints are celebrating a major piece of silverware.
The Saints boss is set to meet the 1976 FA Cup winning squad at St Mary’s on Sunday as they celebrate the 40th anniversary of the greatest day in the club’s history.
It is somewhat of a surprise that a club of Saints’ stature has not won a major trophy since, and something Koeman is acutely aware of.
“It’s important because it’s history for the club, and of course what we like to do is also one time win a title like a cup,” he insisted.
“We didn’t still so far and maybe next season we get a little bit more luck in the draws in the cup and we can achieve something special for the club what they did 40 years ago.
“It’s very nice for the club, the people and the fans because they make history.
“People and players who make history are always part of the club.”
