Hampshire have signed former Worcestershire seamer Gareth Andrew on for this weekend's trip to Lancashire.

Andrew has taken 231 first-class wickets at 33.7 and is included in a 13-man party for Hampshire's next Specsavers County Championship match at Old Trafford, which begins on Sunday.

The 32 year-old, who has also scored 2909 runs at 24.4,  has been signed on a one-off basis with Chris Wood (knee) and Sean Ervine (finger) unavailable.

With Reece Topley (fractured hand), Gareth Berg (knee), Fidel Edwards (broken ankle) and Ryan Stevenson (back) long-term absentees, Andrew joins Tino Best as a short-term signing.

Hampshire director of cricket Giles White said: "Gareth has been signed for just this match with Woody and Slug both still unfit.

"We're without a lot of all-rounders and Liam Dawson is still unable to bowl so Gareth will be good for the balance of the team as he can also bat.

Andrew missed most of last season with a fractured bone in his back before Worcestershire decided not to renew his contract.

"It's a similar situation to [Hampshire Player of the Year] Gareth Berg at Middlesex before we signed him last year," added White.

Tom Alsop and Brad Wheal are also added to the team that drew with Middlesex.

Meanwhile, Hampshire are hopeful another pain-killing injection will help Wood play in the T20 opener against Middlesex on May 27.

James Anderson, England's all-time leading wicket-taker, is in Lancashire's 12-man squad.
