Kelvin Davis has confirmed that his testimonial next week will be his last game for Saints.

The keeper, who is celebrating ten years at the club, is arranging a fantastic evening at St Mary’s, where Ronald Koeman’s current stars will line-up against a team of the club’s League One and Championship promotion heroes, including Rickie Lambert.

Davis, 39, has made more than 300 appearances for Saints, and was a key part of the club returning to the Premier League, but has confirmed the testimonial game will be his last for Saints.

He said: “I think as I sit here now I feel the time is right. I feel that it’s a road that was obviously always going to come to an end and I feel very proud of what’s been achieved and what’s happened in the time I’ve been at the club, the ups and the downs and my personal battles.

“At the very start I didn’t hit the ground running so to speak, and had my own hurdles to overcome.

“I think about some games where my performances weren’t up to my standard and times where I felt I was unfairly treated, particularly at Sheffield Wednesday away one afternoon.

“We came through that and my relationship with the fans and how my career turned around in those months, to go through that situation and come out and still be here to talk about it and playing and being involved with the club for ten years fills me with a lot of pride.”

Davis is using the event to support the Liver and Pancreatic Cancer Research & Development Charity, who are based in Southampton.

As well as Lambert, the promotion team already have Jack Cork, Radhi Jaidi, Dan Harding, Dean Hammond, Billy Sharp, Bartosz Bialkowski and Danny Butterfield confirmed, with many more to be named.

As well as that, Matt Le Tissier and Lambert will be facing off in a mouth-watering penalty shootout at half time to settle once and for all who is the deadliest from the spot.

Davis said: “I hope that is an opportunity for all Saints fans to come and basically show a little bit of gratitude to the players that came through the leagues, the League One and the Championship side, because for me they were in the DNA of the club.

“They put the club where it is today and without those performances, without Rickie Lambert’s goals and without Jonathan Forte’s two goals against MK Dons when we were 2-0 down, without even David Connolly’s contribution in League One, we wouldn’t be where we are now.

“It’s a great opportunity for us all to show appreciation to them and to show where the club’s come from.”
