SALISBURY boss Steve Claridge professed himself “three quarters pleased and one quarter disappointed” to be drawn out of the hat against old foe Hereford in the FA Trophy preliminary round.

The two phoenix clubs just can’t seem to avoid each other having famously gone head-to-head last season in the FA Vase semi-final, attracting 7,000 fans across two legs, and both winning promotion to the Southern One South & West.

This time Salisbury have landed home advantage in the Trophy on Saturday, October 8 and Claridge was left stunned at the draw.

"I'm three-quarters pleased and one quarter disappointed," he confessed.

"The same as I was when the Vase semi-final draw was made.

"It is a wonderful game for everyone again, with a big crowd likely. I'm just gutted we have to face such quality opposition so early on.

"I thought the way both clubs conducted themselves last season over the two legs of the Vase semi was brilliant. "They were gracious to us in victory, their manager and all their officials, and I like to think we were gracious in defeat as well.

"I believe these are two quality clubs with quality players and fans, both very professional.

"It's great that we have an intense rivalry but not a bitter one - and that's not always the case in football."

With Gareth Barfoot hanging up his boots, goalkeeper Charlie Searle has re-joined Salisbury for a second loan spell from parent club Havant & Waterlooville.

The Whites kicked off pre-season with a 3-0 defeat against Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Goals from Ellis Harrison, Ollie Clarke and Billy Bodin proved enough for the Sky Bet League One newcomers, who are managed by ex-Salisbury boss Darrell Clarke.
