SOUTHAMPTON AC all-rounder Amaya Scott turned in a sparkling performance at the England Schools’ Combined Events Championships in Exeter over the weekend.

The 15-year-old – daughter of former Solent Stars basketball star Mark - finished third in the intermediate (under-17) heptathlon.

It earns Scott her second consecutive England Schools’ vest and she will compete in the annual Home International Indoor Pentathlon match in Athlone, Ireland, on December 10.

Scott turned in solid performances in five of the seven events – the sprint hurdles, 200 metres, high jump, javelin and 800 metres - and exceptional performances in the shot put (13.61m) and long jump (5.46m) where she achieved lifetime bests.

Her total points score of 4,844 was just outside her personal best of 4,920, placing her twelfth on the UK all-time U17 heptathlon list in her first year in the age group.

Intermediate girls’ heptathlon winner Jade O’Dowda from Oxford, who is already 17, broke Katarina Johnson-Thompson’s championship record, set in 2008, with a huge tally of 5,226 points. It puts her second on the UK all-time list.
